Dewey or BISAC

Read blog by Librarian.net about two libraries changing over from the Dewey system to BISAC. Interesting read. Something to think about. Check it out at Karen Scneider's blog at: http://www.techsource.ala.org/blog/2007/07/raising-arizona.html.

Tech Support

Found a site by MLS student called Life as I Know It: http://scruffynerf.wordpress.com/ . Jenny listes the five great tips for giving tech support to patrons in need from the Librarian in Black site. She goes on to give her tips she has learned from her life experiences of working with people needing tech help. Good reminder to think like the patron and how you would like to be treated. I have found very patient people surrounding me in my back-to-school endeavor. Thank you for the support.

Second Life Info

Went to Ms. Atkin's blogsite the Unlibrarian and read about some of the sessions she attended at the ALA Convention. She mentioned the website http://secondlife.com/education. This is a good site for educators who are interested in using Second Life in their teaching. There is a Teen Second Life strictly for ages 13-17 year olds. You need to be 18 to enter the adult Second Life. How do sites get monitored for appropriate ages? All very interesting. Check it out.

ALA Trends Information Commons

Found blog by The Librarian in Black about trends she thinks will be addressed at the ALA Conference.

Top Technology Trends

By Sarah Houghton-Jan

I'm a couple of years into my time on the LITA Top Technology Trends committee. I like it a lot. It forces me to stop and think a bit, process, all that information I've been absorbing over the months. I've just posted my trends for the upcoming ALA conference I don't claim to have anything revolutionary, but take a gander if you wish.

Nashville Library Teen Site

By dv6939

Check http://www.library.nashville.org/teens/teenweb.asp for teens. Great ideas for what to do in your library for the teens. Found it on The Untamed Librarian website. My local library does a good job ith the childrens' programs but the teens' programs are lacking. It is usually an afterthought kind of program and not enough of them to get a real pattern going for bringing in that age.
